Official Opening of New GRA Medium Taxpayer Office - MTO - Spintex Road

The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) announces for the information of the general public particularly taxpayers who transact their tax affairs in the former Internal Revenue Service Teshie-Nungua Office and the former VAT Office on the Spintex Road that a new Medium Taxpayer Office (MTO) has been opened on the Spintex Road, about 100 meters off the Community 18 Junction.  The new MTO which commenced business from 1st March, 2012 was officially opened on 24th May, 2012.   The new MTO on the Spintex Road is a One-Stop-Shop for all Domestic Tax Transactions where you can pay both your Income Tax and VAT/NHIL.

The new Medium Taxpayer Office (MTO) will cater for taxpayers whose annual turnover is above GH¢90,000 but below GH¢5 million.  All taxpayers in the above- named offices whose annual turnover fall within the above range will transact their tax affairs in the new Spintex Road MTO.

All other taxpayers in the two named offices whose annual turnover fall below GH¢90,000 will transact their tax business at the former IRS office at Teshie-Nungua which is now designated Small Taxpayer Office (STO).    All Domestic Taxpayers in and around Teshie –Nungua and Spintex Road who pay Income Tax and VAT/NHIL within the turnover range of GH¢90,000 but below GH¢5 million are requested to transact all their tax affairs at the new MTO.

 

SELF ASSESSMENT - 2012

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to inform the general public that in accordance with section 78 of the Internal Revenue Act, Act 592, the Commissioner-General has authorized that the following companies incorporated in Ghana under the Companies Code 1963 shall be Self-Assessing Taxpayers.  

The companies are therefore required to furnish their estimate of chargeable income and tax payable for the year of assessment 2012 on or before 31st March,2012.

 

Opening of Additional TIN Processing Offices

The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to inform the general public that in addition to the Registrar General’s Department, the following offices of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) are open for processing of the Taxpayers Identification Number (TIN).

The offices are:

1 KIA LVO (VAT) Kaneshie
2 Adabraka LVO (VAT) (VAT House)
3 Achimota District Office (IRS)
4 Agbogbloshie District Office (IRS)
5 Ashaiman District Office (IRS)
6 Makola District Office (IRS)
7 Tema LVO (VAT) Tema
8 Legon District Office (IRS)

Applicants for TIN are encouraged to patronize the above offices to reduce the pressure on the processing centre at the Registrar-General’s Department.
Applicants particularly those processing Customs documents in and around Tema and Kotoka International Airport (KIA) are advised to register at the Tema LVO (VAT office) and Legon District Office (IRS) respectively.

August VAT/NHIL & CST Returns

The Ghana revenue authority (GRA) reminds all VAT registered persons that VAT/NHIL and Communications Service Tax (CST) returns for August 2012 should be submitted on the VAT/NHIL and CST return forms not later than Friday, 28th September, 2012 which is the last working day of the month of September.

Please be reminded that the penalty for late filing of VAT/NHIL returns is one hundred Ghana cedis (GH¢100) and a further penalty of fifty Ghana pesewas (gh¢0.50) per day for each day that the return is not submitted.  Late submission of CST return also attracts a pecuniary penalty of GH¢2,000 and a further penalty of five hundred Ghana cedis (GH¢500) for each day that the return is not submitted.

 
Payment Of Withholding Taxes - August, 2012

The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to remind all Withholding Tax Agents that all taxes withheld from employment, payment for goods and services and all other withheld taxes, deducted in August, 2012 must be paid to the Domestic Tax Revenue Division (Former IRS and VAT Offices) by 15th September, 2012.

Such payments must be accompanied by a schedule, in both hard and soft copies, indicating gross amount, tax deducted and name(s) of taxpayer(s).

Please note that failure to pay the tax withheld on due date attracts a penalty of 20% (for not more than 3 months) and 30% (exceeding 3 months) in addition to the tax unpaid, (Act 592 Section 143 as amended)

NOTE    
AS 15TH OF SEPTEMBER, 2012 FALLS ON A SATURDAY, PAYMENT OF WITHHOLDING TAXES MUST BE RECEIVED AT THE TAX OFFICE BY 12 NOON FRIDAY, 14TH SEPTEMBER, 2012.
